One of my favorite movies is Shane. This movie was released in 1953 and runs for 118 minutes. While I could not find any rating for this movie, it was probably the equivalent of Parental Guidance recommended. The major action is around the 'good guy' characters played by Alan Ladd, Jean Arthur, Van Heflin and Brandon De Wilde. The 'bad guys' were played by Ben Johnson, Jack Palance and Emile Meyer.
Since I like the movie Shane intuitively, I have not given much thought to the reasons. First of all, I enjoy it. Also, it has no gratuitous violence or rape. The good guys win over the bad. There are some really great action scenes including the final showdown that the movies builds up to. The panoramic landscape is beautiful. Finally, Shane was released the year I was graduated from high school. Alan Ladd was one of the very 'cool' macho male actors of my boyhood. The character Shane is the quintessence of cool!
